If you're committed and passionate about libraries in the United States and understand how crucial of a role they play in helping Americans get ahead in life, you can join us here to help build the political and social support we need in order to protect them.
As a volunteer for EveryLibrary, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that libraries are able to continue to support the communities they serve. We will teach you the political skills you need in order to organize communities for libraries across the entire country. You will learn how to stand up to organizations, political leaders, and individuals that are fighting against libraries. We'll work with you to show you how local political, state and national campaigns and initiatives are run. If you have an interest in politics and libraries there's just so much to do!
While volunteers are responsible for various programs and services in the organization, they will work closely with full time staff to accomplish these goals. Our strongest volunteers may take leadership roles upon completion of training and there are opportunities for full-time employment growing from these volunteer opportunities.
These volunteer roles are our current listings but there are opportunities to work beyond these roles and within other areas of interest. Of course, all volunteers are expected to be fully committed to communicating with other teams and groups and engage with other staff and volunteers in order to complete projects.
Data Volunteer
Our Data Volunteers are responsible for data cultivation, management, and maintenance. This volunteer will ensure that our database of library supports is kept up to date, clean, and accurate. There are opportunities for a wide range of research topics in this volunteer role. You will be given access to a number of big data sources and voter information in order to build data around library supporters and to identify and understand trends in voter support for libraries.
Donor Research, Cultivation, and Fundraising Volunteer
Our Donor Volunteers work with a team of individuals to use data sources to research potential donors to library causes and issues. We are looking for someone who is interested in taking an innovative approach to identifying donors to library issues across the country. We are excited about someone who is great at contacting potential donors to solicit their contributions and reach our fundraising goals. These may be donors to specific actions for library causes such as supporting state wide or local legislation, local campaigns and elections, or project specific to help EveryLibrary meet the needs of building and maintaining a suite of national advocacy tools, training, and resources for libraries.
Design And Visual Media Volunteer
Our Design and Digital Media Volunteers are responsible for managing our growing network of social media support for libraries. You will be in charge of creating compelling images, videos, and social media posts as well as scheduling and maintaining our wide network of social media profiles. You may have the opportunity to create content that is specific to local campaigns or more general content for national advocacy.
Grant Writing Volunteer
Our Grant Writing Volunteers are primarily responsible for writing research grants for the EveryLibrary Institute. The Institute is a 501c3 organization that conducts research around building library support in the United States. This organization also conducts training for librarians and library supporters as well as public education about library issues. The grant writing volunteers will research and write grants for these projects and others as needed.
Research Volunteer
Our Research Volunteers primarily conduct opposition, supporter, legislative, political, local and national research in order to help us navigate the changing landscapes of American Politics and its influence on libraries and librarianship. There are a wide range of research opportunities. Research Volunteers may work closely with the Grant Writing and data Staff and Volunteers to conduct research and generate data and information that can be used by libraries across the country to build support in their communities.
Event Coordination Volunteer
Event Volunteers are responsible for creating events and fundraisers for both EveryLibrary as well as local, state, and federal initiatives. These events can be small or large fundraisers, rallies, or other events as needed. Event Volunteers have the opportunity to explore a wide range of event types as well as the marketing and invitations to attendees and the planning and execution of all aspects of the event to make sure that it is successful.
Administrative Volunteer
Administrative Volunteers are responsible for scheduling and planning of administrative tasks. These include arranging travel, filling reimbursements, tracking receipts, issuing checks, and filling invoices. These volunteers work closely with the administration of EveryLibrary to support a wide range of needs.
Content Volunteers
The Content Volunteers create articles, essays, blog posts, and other written content to support libraries and related issues in the United States. This is an opportunity to create high-impact content and get published on a wide variety of mediums. From in-print to online, this volunteer will create content that addresses opposition claims to library campaigns, create entertaining content for blog posts and journals, and draft fundraising emails or engaging petition content on legislative issues around librarianship.
Community Building Volunteer
The Community Building Volunteer will work to create online and offline communities of individuals who are interested in taking action to build support for libraries. There are opportunities to work with a number of advanced digital platforms to create online communities of library supporters for specific local, state, or federal issues as well as general support for libraries. This volunteer will be responsible for the training, scheduling, and cultivation of volunteers across the country.
We are currently developing our volunteer program and we will contact everyone who is interested in volunteering as soon as we can. We will have many roles for volunteers and we are interested in making sure that we find the perfect role for you.
